Powering industry and society through electrical machines, power systems, control, and renewable energy.
About the Department
Electrical Engineering is the heart of the engineering discipline, and B.Tech Electrical Engineering at GITS gives students a broad understanding of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. Faculty bring diverse expertise spanning traditional subjects and new interdisciplinary areas. The department also offers a two-year M.Tech in Power System (18 seats) covering power system operation and control, stability, planning, reliability and the application of power electronics to power systems.
To become the pioneer in providing quality electrical engineers with comprehensive acceptability.
M1: Promote an innovative, technological environment to meet industrial and global challenges. M2: Provide quality education and amplify skills to develop competent electrical engineers. M3: Create an effective interface between industry and academia.
PEO1: Apply electrical engineering concepts to meet the technological requirements of the nation.
PEO2: Build effective communication, ethics and leadership skills for a successful career.
PEO3: Design and develop novel and innovative systems.

Message from Head of Department
The curriculum spans two major domains — Power & Energy Systems, and Instrumentation & Control Systems — and prepares graduates to develop, build and test electrical devices and design systems for residential, industrial and commercial use. Opportunities span power generation and distribution, railways, the armed forces, electricity boards, consultancy, manufacturing and PSUs such as BHEL and HAL. Students train at the in-campus incubation centre and with alliance partners THERMAX, GE Healthcare, SIEMENS and PYROTECH, grooming them into industry-ready engineers.

Research
Final-year B.Tech EE students designed and installed dual-electrification (solar + AC-mains) street lights with LDR-based automatic ON/OFF control, cutting power consumption using renewable energy.
A noiseless, pollution-free PV-powered car for daily commute — converting solar energy to electrical energy with zero emissions and minimal maintenance.
Mobile robots that detect a predefined path via IR sensors and follow it, using an 8-bit Atmega microcontroller to decide direction.
An eco-friendly e-bike exhibited at Cognizance, IIT Roorkee 2018 — 120 km on a single charge, 55 km/h top speed, lightweight aerodynamic design with low maintenance.
A student-fabricated generation–transmission–distribution demonstrator (40W solar panel + 12V lead-acid battery), the first project of the EIT Power System group.
A 1kW, 12V DC-to-AC inverter built by final-year students for EIT-lab backup power, running fans, lights and computers during outages.
A remote star-delta starter for three-phase induction motors serving industry, agriculture and domestic needs — reducing human effort and improving safety.
Placements
Electrical graduates find opportunities across power generation and distribution, railways, the armed forces, PSUs (BHEL, HAL), manufacturing and IT, with alliance training partners THERMAX, GE Healthcare, SIEMENS and PYROTECH.
