Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering

Designing the telecommunications and integrated-circuit technologies that connect the modern world.

About the Department

Electronics & Communication Engineering at GITS

Electronics & Communication Engineering is one of the most sought-after branches, covering the design of telecommunication equipment and integrated-circuit prototypes. The department offers two PG programmes — Digital Communication (DC) and VLSI — and opens career paths across manufacturing and service organisations such as ITI, Civil Aviation, Defence, Railways, BEL, DRDO, telecommunication, IT, hardware manufacturing, VLSI design and R&D.

Vision

To provide quality education through research and innovation to cater to the needs of industry and society.

Mission

Nurture students’ theoretical and practical knowledge in collaboration with industry; motivate students towards research and innovation to fulfil the needs of industry and society; and develop socially responsible professionals with values and ethics.

PEOs

PEO1: Prepare graduates to apply electronics and communication fundamentals to industry and societal needs.
PEO2: Foster research, innovation and lifelong learning in emerging areas of the field.
PEO3: Develop socially responsible professionals with strong values, ethics and communication skills.

Message from Head of Department

“Since its inception the department has grown remarkably — balancing theory and practice through a solid, up-to-date curriculum.”

The department has well-qualified, highly motivated faculty and 10 fully-equipped labs — including MMIC & PCB fabrication, IoT, DSP, Fiber Optic, VLSI and MEMS — serving both UG and PG students. Faculty stay current with emerging technologies through research in Microwave Theory, Antenna Techniques, DSP, VLSI and MEMS, publishing in national and international journals. Students are encouraged to build quality projects, publish papers, take short-term courses (Arduino embedded systems, Raspberry Pi, microcontroller interfacing, FPGA design) and compete in ROBOCON and SAE BAJA, where they have won many awards.

Research

Research & Innovation

Water Quality Monitoring System

A real-time device measuring pH, temperature, turbidity and conductivity to detect pollutants, with readings and history accessible remotely for efficient on-site testing.

Sewerage Leakage Detection System

An automated, low-cost wireless sensor network along distribution pipes (Water-Sense Cable) using an Arduino controller and IoT for early leak detection and pipe rehabilitation.

Dam & Reservoir Water-Level Monitoring

Collects and shares real-time water-level data to a central command centre via far-field communication using sensors and PLC, alerting authorities during cloudbursts or floods.

Automated Railway Crossing Gate Control

A microcontroller system that senses train arrival/departure and auto-closes/opens gates at unmanned level crossings to reduce accidents and traffic build-up.

FarmBot — IoT Agriculture

Monitors temperature, humidity, soil moisture and smoke, plots sensor data online, and enables automatic irrigation via sprinklers and pumps for better farming decisions.

Voice-Controlled Home Automation

A speech-recognition system enabling physically challenged users to control appliances via an Android GUI, 8051 microcontroller and Bluetooth relay interface.

IoT Digital Notice Board

A Raspberry-Pi-based system to remotely display text or images on an LED screen over the internet — economical and power-efficient for colleges, stations and more.
