About the Department
Electrical Engineering is the heart of the engineering discipline and B.Tech. Electrical Engineering at GITS provides its students with a broad understanding of the application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. The faculty members for Engineering and Technology come with diverse expertise and tremendous professional as well as teaching experience. The faculty’s expertise spans across the breadth of traditional engineering subjects to new inter disciplinary explorations.
The programme objective is to apply the knowledge of Mathematics, Science and Electrical Engineering Fundamentals to solve, analyze and design complex problems in electrical machines, electrical circuits, control systems, power systems, analog and digital electronics; implement the knowledge in the domain of renewable energy and power plants and determine their performance through testing and commissioning of EHT substations and generating stations; apply technical skills and modern engineering software tools in the domain of Electrical Engineering through experimentation, modelling and presentation to develop new products useful to the industry and the society.
Department of Electrical Engineering offers a two-year M.Tech post graduate programme in Power System. This course deals with the sophisticated methods of power system operation and control using computers and state-of-the-art techniques in power system analysis, stability, planning, reliability and forecasting. Research encompasses areas like power quality, power system planning, power system reliability and application of power electronics to power systems. M.Tech specialization in power system has intake of 18 seats.
Direction
To become the pioneer of providing quality electrical engineers with comprehensive acceptability.
M1: To promote innovative and technological environment to meet industrial and global challenges. M2: To provide the quality education and amplify the skills to develop competent Electrical Engineers. M3: To create effective interface with industries and academia.
Goals
From the HoD
Dr. Raunak Jangid — Professor & HOD
Electrical Engineering is one of the core fields of engineering, therefore considered evergreen in terms of scope and job prospects. The curriculum comprises of two major domains: Power & Energy Systems; and Instrumentation & Control Systems. The work of a Graduate Electrical Engineer consists of development, construction, and testing of electrical devices and appliances and designing electrical systems for residential, industrial, or commercial buildings, as each of these types of facilities have different requirements.
Electrical engineers can pursue opportunities in diverse fields such as atomic power plants, hydel and/or thermal power generation and distribution industries. Job opportunities are ample in both private and public sector like railways, Armed forces, civil aviation, electricity board and utility companies, electrical design and consultancy firms, manufacturing industries, petroleum and natural gas plants as well as IT industries. Government sector departments like BHEL, HAL, State DRDO etc. are prime recruiters for EE graduates. Besides, many premier Educational and Research Institutions require electrical engineers to work on research projects.
The department is equipped with the latest facilities and equipment for extensive undergraduate and post graduate training. The curriculum is designed to bring together different components of study: theory and practice, research, designing solutions, self-study and internships. A module is designated to team projects for designing workable solutions for challenging problems.
Our students are provided opportunities for training at the in-campus incubation centre and on-the-job industrial training with our alliance partners THERMAX, GE-Healthcare, SIEMENS and PYROTECH. These Training Programs are instrumental in grooming industry ready candidates for the dynamic and evolving job market.
