About the Department

Mechanical Engineering at GITS

The undergraduate curriculum blends design, mathematics, modelling, computing, management and engineering science, covering fluid mechanics, thermodynamics & heat transfer, solid mechanics, materials, manufacturing, energy systems, dynamics & control, CAD and CIM. The department offers UG Mechanical Engineering and PG Industrial Engineering & Management, and runs conferences, FDPs, guest lectures, workshops, industrial visits and value-added courses. Graduates find opportunities across energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, steel, automotive, robotics and IT, in both the private and government sectors.

To impart comprehensive knowledge enabling students to become innovative, successful entrepreneurs in the advanced fields of mechanical engineering that meet industrial demands and social needs.

The department provides a creative, innovation-driven learning environment with the mentorship and tools to excel in core engineering. It offers UG Mechanical Engineering and PG Industrial Engineering & Management, with modern laboratory and workshop facilities for research and projects. Corporate training, industrial training and consultancy translate into good placements and industry exposure; faculty upgrade their skills through FDPs; and MoUs with industries such as Thermax Limited, Pune support research, training and skill development for faculty and students alike.

A PLC-controlled automatic bottle-filling system with motion sensor and DC-motor conveyor (ladder-logic programming) for low-cost, low-power food & beverage automation under Make in India.

Batch Mixing Plant

A user-friendly PLC/HMI system that automates producing colour shades in precise ratios — improving efficiency and consistency while eliminating manual effort for MSMEs.

Water Filtering Plant

A cost-effective PLC-controlled multi-layer micro-filtration and disinfection system that treats industrial effluent for recycling and safe discharge.

3-D Printer

A low-cost additive-manufacturing 3D printer for prototype fabrication and spare-part production, with applications in medical, aerospace and aviation.

Go Kart

An affordable go-kart exploring cheaper manufacturing and bio-fuel / hybrid propulsion to extend the sport to tier-3 towns while cutting emissions.

Solar Electric Vehicle

A noiseless, pollution-free PV-powered car for daily commute — zero emissions and minimal maintenance, addressing transport-sector pollution.

Battery-Operated Vehicle

An electric vehicle offering an eco-friendly alternative to fossil-fuel transport, reducing greenhouse-gas emissions with zero tailpipe pollution.

Lake Cleaning Machine

A pedal-powered, five-speed machine that removes floating debris and plastic waste from water bodies — simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly.

All Terrain Vehicle

A compact off-road ATV with a tight turning radius, high ground clearance and cutting brakes — adaptable as a miniature tractor for cultivation.

Battery-Operated Formula 1 Car

A high-speed single-seat car built from carbon-fibre composites, applying aerodynamics and materials science principles from motorsport.
